Camping

Over the weekend I'll be gone camping with some good friends up by Cascade.  Enjoy the Twice the Values on Sunday for me =)

But I'll be enjoying camping, coupon style:
- Smores' (Free Marshmallows wyb grams and Hershey 6-pack coupon)
- Drinks (Pauls THIS WEEK; 5 12-packs for $12$, Water Bottles from a sale at target a few weeks ago,
                V8 from the $1.00/1 coupon)
- Breakfast (Sausage links on sale at Albertson's this week, plus pancakes and eggs(extra game piece
for Albertson's game wyb 1 dozen eggs)
- Lunch (Sandwiches, ton's of coupons out there for lunch meats, have lots of condiments from
previous sales, Nalley Pickles ($1.75/1 coupon) and cheap bread.
- Dinner Hot Dogs (we all know I have tons of those from Albertson's a few weeks ago) and Burgers.

I want to point out that in the economic time, it's hard to get a few days away, having to give up hours to work when you don't have enough for the vacation anyway, but if you plan ahead like I did with deals (I also stocked up since February on the OFF clip on fans) then you can enjoy a few things and some time with friends a family.  So far we've been able to have my birthday party, a BBQ, Cherry Festival, and now camping mostly supplied by coupon deals.  We've also got 4th July ready and a date at Roaring Springs and my hubby's 21st birthday fueled by coupons.  Yes I had to buy a few things non coupon and that's a given.  But I don't have to buy full priced drinks, swim diapers for my daughter, snacks and those sort of things.  When you look at deals think ahead, not just for meals but for upcoming events!  Also look for sales, even if you don't have coupons, if something IS at a rock bottom price and you know it (Coleman propane $2.99 at Fred Meyers and $2.88 at Walmart) then don't clear a shelf but buy a few. Just in case something comes up (like my camping) you got something to go off of! =) Happy couponing my Idahoans and enjoy the summer heat now that it's finally here!

A healthy dose of Coupon Perspective

I hope everyone took sometime from their busy schedules and couponing to spend some wonderful time with the special men in their life yesterday, I know I did.  And that's why I haven't been posting much the past few days!
However; this weekend I was given a good does of coupon perspective and I wanted to share my found advice for new and well seasoned couponers.  To this date from April of 2011 I have saved a little over $1,6500!!! Which is amazing, and I'm really proud of myself.  However, I haven't missed a weekend since I started "extreme" couponing.  And even though I have saved so much, there's not much I can do when there's no money to spend on couponing due to my husband's hours making less then what our few bills equal out to.  So this weekend and week I won't be couponing.  I will admit I was moping around the house yesterday morning when I got my six papers and couldn't do "anything" with them.  However, my best friend was down for the weekend and she came over for a few hours.  When we got to talking I started to hear how she had no food in the cupboards, fridge or freezer, and like my husband and I was denied for food stamps.  I started to hit myself upside the head.  Here I was complaining because I couldn't go "score" some good deals on razors and gum that I had plenty of along with a full pantry and freezer and all I had to buy this week was some eggs and a gallon of milk!  So before she left I gave her two boxes full of stuff (with my mom's help who's also a couponer) and said our goodbyes.
This morning, I got a text from my friend saying "Heather, thank you so much for the food.  You really didn't have to.  But we really appreciate it greatly."
I have quickly learned, that being an "extreme" couponer doesn't mean scoring every deal and lettingg some go for the sake of bills, family, friends or just some time for yourself.  But also, being able to be selfless and help those in greater need then yourself.  Here was a week I couldn't replenish my pantry because my fiances are so tight and yet I still gave and blessed someone else.  And I think that's what this whole couponing thing is about.  Giving, loving and working together.  Not only to help with getting coupons and tips but one another when it get's too tough for you to keep you head above the water in these tough economic times.  To not rely on the government who base's their money and giving on pety things but to rely on one another and base nothing on anything and just give.  To find simplicity in this complicated world in one another.

Target Updates Their Policey On Coupons!!!

Be sure to print it off or click here if you shop there a lot and stick it in your binder!

Target Stores Coupon Policy
Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores.  When accepting coupons, we follow the guidelines below.
Manufacturer and Target Coupons:
  • Target accepts one Manufacturer Coupon and one Target Coupon for the same item (unless prohibited by either coupon).
  • Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, flavor, etc.).
  • Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
  • We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
  • All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier during checkout.
  • All applicable sales taxes are paid by the guest at the full value of the item.
  • These guidelines apply to all coupons accepted at Target (Color Checkout Coupons, Internet Coupons, Mobile Coupons, Mailed Coupons, Coupons from Newspapers and Magazines, etc.).
Internet (Print-at-Home) Coupons:
  • We gladly accept valid internet coupons that contain a clear and scannable bar code.
  • We do not accept internet coupons for free items with no purchase requirements.
Mobile Coupons:
  • Guests can receive Target Mobile Coupons by signing up for Text Alerts at Target.com/mobile or by texting COUPONS to 827438 (TARGET).
  • Message and data rates may apply.  See site for full details.
  • To redeem, simply show your coupon barcode to the cashier.  With one simple scan, all applicable coupons are applied.
Buy One Get One Free Coupons (BOGO):
  • BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one Buy One Get One Free coupon requires that two of the valid items are presented at checkout of which one item will be charged to the guest and the 2nd item will be discounted by its full retail price.
  • A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.
    • If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.
    • If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be
    • used on the first item.
Exclusions:
  • Coupons are void if copied, scanned, transferred, purchased, sold, prohibited by law, or appear altered in any way.
  • We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
  • Some items may not be available at all stores.
  • We do not accept expired coupons.

A few tips from a fellow blogger of why the TLC show fruads you into thinking Extream Couponing is okay

Everyone, and I mean everyone, seems to be talking about this "great new show" called Extreme Couponing.  At first I was interested to watch this show.  I watched several episodes until I realized all the episodes had a common denominator:  FAKE.

Yes, this is just my opinion, and you may think you can really go to the grocery store and by $2,000.00 worth of groceries for 90¢, and if you really believe that I have a bridge to sell you.. for cheap too!

Here's what I see wrong with this show:

  1. All the Extreme Couponers say "wow, this is my biggest transaction yet".  Translation ~ I don't normally shop like this, I'm hamming it up for the TV show.
  2. How many episodes have you watched, where the Extreme Couponer is told she has too many items or coupons, and the transaction has to be split up?  HELLO~~~ this tells you right there, that they have never done this before.  If they did, they would know ahead of time to split up their transactions.
  3. I've seen episodes where the couponer says she bought tons of batches of coupons online ahead of time for the show.  Did you see that amount in her "total spent"?  Of course not.  TLC failed to show you the hundreds of dollars she probably spent on coupons alone!  Yeah, her total might have been $3 for her groceries, but that's before her cost of the coupons she pre-ordered!
  4. Seriously ~ who needs to bring along a trailer to go grocery shopping?  You think he does this every week?
  5. Who not just purchases - but STOCKPILES diapers - when you have no kids???
  6. Did you see the chick who had her husband drive her around so she could steal her neighbor's Sunday papers?  Really?  Isn't that theft?  TLC is airing this crap, giving other dishonest people ideas on how to get "free" papers?
  7. What about that Jaime Kirlew - she was shown printing P&G printable coupons that had been on a known counterfeit-coupon list, and she also admitted to using certain coupons on the wrong items to get a better deal = COUPON FRAUD.
  8. Most grocery stores have a limit to how many of the same coupon you can use.  At least the ones here in my area of NY - we are limited to doubling only 4 like coupons in the same transaction. This does not include Walmart.  Walmart lets you use as many as you want. The ones on TV are using 100's of the same coupon.  I just find this hard to believe that this was not just allowed only for TV reasons.
  9. Did you see the episode where the Couponer had too many items in her transaction, so the store manager got out a calculator to help her divide up her purchases?  A CALCULATOR!!  Do ya think he was sincerely helping her or trying to make himself look good on national television?  Puhlease....
  10. And let's not forget how this "great new show" is hurting everyday average couponers like myself.  Rite Aid has now changed their coupon policy, and lots of other major grocery store chains are making major changes to their coupon policies, thanks to this ridiculous new show, making it harder and harder for people to save money with coupons.
  11. I work my butt off couponing - it takes a LOT of time (I work on my coupons 7 days a week) and on an average grocery shopping trip I'm happy to save 50%.  I suppose if I wanted my family to live off nothing but pasta, cereal and candy bars I could save 99% like the ladies on TV.  Do you ever see them buying MEAT?  I mean, fresh meat, produce, veggies, fresh fruits?  No - everything is processed and again, they are just trying to buy a lot of ANYTHING they can get free to get noticed on TV.
And this concludes my "Extreme Couponing" rant.

And heaven help the next person who says to me "wow, you saved a lot, but too bad you couldn't get all this for $1 like those extreme couponers on TV".

Coupon Binder

I apologize for not posting anything the past few days, my hubby and I started our daughter on a toddler bed and said bye bye to her crib, so it's been an up and down couple days!  Now that we're somewhat back on track I wanted to talk binder.

There are so many methods of organization, and what kind of binders to use I wanted to get to know what my fellow readers have and what works best for them!

I have a 3" regular three ringed binder which works well for me.  In the very front cover I have a copy of my motto on couponing to keep me "grounded" when I miss a deal or the store is out of what I want. In the very front flap I keep all my store envelopes and they are my wonder system when it comes to shopping.  Before I go on a trip I will not only make a list but organize the coupons I'll need for each store and by transaction and stick them into the envelope!  Plus I have my 30-ish different category's!  I don't think I'd mind the zip up binders but spending $20 bucks kills me =)

What works for you???

06/05-06/11 Rite Aid && Wag's deals

Rite Aid and Walgreen's tend to be my favorite drug stores to shop in our area, Walgreen's more usually just because it's closer.  But the UP+ and Register Rewards are always nice and to combo them with coupons always leads to some good deals each week.  And their also nice to use on products you don't see many coupons for like energy drinks, hair accessory's and battery's.  There are a few good deals going on this week at both drugstores...but keep in mind that all Idaho Rite Aids have a new rule to you can only do one of each UP+ rewards deal per day.  So like the P&G buy $30 worth get $10 UP+ back you can only do that once each day, but you can also do other deals like the VEET buy two get $5.00 UP+ back with the P&G deal.  I have no complaints, it makes it nice to go to a store and have it stocked =)

Here's my deals of the week:

Rite Aid
  • Gillette Body Wash (3 bottles) @ $3.50 each + $2.00 coupon for each
  • Gillette Deodorant (6 sticks) @ $3.50 each + B1G1Free Coupon for every pair
  • Nestle Candy Bars (10 bars) @ $0.50 each + $0.50 coupon for every 2
  • VEET Wax Strips (2 boxes) @4.99 + $1.00 Rite Aid Video Coupon + 2/$2.00 in store ad coupons + 2/2.00 manf. coupon
Before UP+ Rewards from previous purchases AND coupons = $69.46
With UP+ Rewards AND coupons = $2.48 (before tax) $5.15 (w/ tax)
That's a savings of $64.31
Plus; I got a $10.00 UP+ rewards from the P&G deal, and a $5.00 UP+ rewards from the VEET deal.

Walgreen's
(note that this was w/ three transactions)
  •  ALL laundry detergent (2 bottles)
  • Chex Mix (6 bags)
  • Sobe Life water (3 bottles)
  • Chicken of the Sea Tuna (1 can)
  • Rimmel Eye Liner (2 sticks)
  • Rimmel Nail Polish (1 bottle)
  • Rimmel Match Perfect Foundation (1 bottle)
  • Bayer Advanced (2 bottles)
  • Starbucks Ice Cream (4 containers)
  • Twix Candy Bar (1 it was my filler)
Before RR's AND coupons = $93.95
After RR's AND Coupons = $17.63

It pays (litterally) to do your homework!

Last week Albertson's had a deal of BOGO (buy one get one free) on their Beggin Strips dog treats!  I have two large dogs so this was a BINGO BOGO for me!  I ran over to my Albertson's but they were already out of them less then 24 hours into the sale!  So I went to get a rain check, and before they wrote it out for me I asked if I could talk to the assitant manager on staff.  I had 6 BOGO coupons for the exact same product, she said that that would be fine so they wrote up a rain check for 12 and sent me on my way.

Today, I went into the same Albertson's to get two extra game pieces I'd won with an instant win in one of the game pieces yesterday and saw they had gotten their shipment of Beggin Strips in.  I got excited whiped out my rain check and coupons and grabed my 12!  I also picked up some Albertson's brand bath tissue since I had an instant win for a 4-pack.  When I got to the chashier I thought it be pretty simple seeing how it was a rain check, but come to find out my cashier was "extreamly" disapointed in what I was trying to do and told me that I couldn't use my coupons for the deal.  Now about a month ago I would have slumped over and said okay!  But one of the wonderful things that couponing has brought to my life is learning to stand my ground on something I know I'm right on.  So I asked him nicely to call the assistant manager over, and she confirmed that that's how they are doing it.  Now they did take my coupons after standing in line for close to 30 minutes and while the cashier complained about what I was doing was wrong the whole time, but when all was said and done I had an overage which in the end paid for my toilet paper and my tax!

Today's lesson, know your policy, when your not sure about something, ask a manager or assistant manager (that's what they are there for!) and work with your cashier, and most most most of all...if your sure about something, don't let the cashier push you around! Be nice about it, but stand your ground.  Because I did I got a 180% savings today! And a couple of very happy dogs!
